Reading Julie & Julia

You've probably seen the movie Julie & Julia, but have you read the book? It is so much better than the movie, if that's even possible. The author, Julie Powell doesn't even know how to cook before she embarks on this humongous project of making every recipe in Julia Child's famous cookbook.

I'll tell you one thing, she's got more guts than I do. You wouldn't catch me boiling calf hooves or scraping the marrow out of a cow thigh bone. Her description of boiling lobsters is hilarious. Plus, she has a potty mouth which doesn't come across in the movie.

I can relate to her since I'm writing a cookbook and doing several blogs. Thankfully my husband is very supportive and cooks right alongside me.

As soon as I finish reading this book I'm going to rent the movie again.

Hi Shirlee, congratulations on the publication of your newest book. Yes, I did see the movie, Julie and Julia, and liked it. Will put the book on my "to read" list.

I continually look for authors that I have not read, I find if I read many books by the same author they become predictable.

Recently read "The Girls" by Lori Lansens. I had to keep reminding myself that the book was indeed fiction; I did not want to put it down but I did because I wanted to prolong the pleasure. Lansens also wrote "Rush Home Road", enjoyed that one as well.

We have a wonderful local library and librarian, spent time there today and brought home books by Nora Roberts,Daniel Silva, David Wroblewski. That should hold me until after Christmas. Am presently reading "What Matters Most" by Luanne Rice.

Betty,
Have you ever read Elizabeth Berg? I have most of her books and enjoy her style of writing.
I get most of my books free from Bookmooch. It's a free website where you list books you want to give away and create a wishlist of books you want. It's all free. Check it out.
I send Mom books all the time. She likes large print.
Thanks for posting a comment. It confirms that there really are people out there reading my blogs.
Have a blessed Christmas!
Your cousin,
Shirlee
